forest school

Forest School allows children of all ages to visit the woodland on a regular basis with trained practitioners. Through the delivery of Forest School sessions, we are able to introduce children to the joy of spending time immersed in nature, enabling them to learn new skills. The woodland environment is known to stimulate the natural curiosity and inspire the mind. We allow children to explore at their own pace .The calming influence of the outdoors encourages children to create their own play opportunities and work collaboratively with others. Children develop the ability to recognise and manage risk.  Children are simply allowed to play.

stay and play sessions

Every Tuesday (£10 per session or £50 per block of six sessions)

0-5 years: 9.30am – 10.30am
0-5 years: 11am – 12pm

(Please note we offer a discount of £8 per child for siblings)

Our woodland play and stay sessions for young babies, toddlers and pre-school aged children are designed to offer a taste of the outdoors through free play alongside activities planned and led by one of our leaders. Parents and carers are asked to attend these sessions and enjoy the great outdoors too. Giving babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers the opportunity to explore their natural surroundings allows them to fully engage their mind, body and all of their senses. The outdoor environment has the added benefit of space; giving children the freedom to explore in a space which allows for unrestrained movement. Our sessions are designed to ignite and encourage a natural motivation and positive attitude to learning.

 What to wear:

In order for children to benefit from our sessions we have created a short checklist for you. It is essential that all children attending Willoughby Woods are appropriately dressed. Sessions are planned for throughout the year in all-weather conditions (except in high winds and storms). Therefore, we recommend:

  • At least 3 layers of clothing on their top is recommended. T-shirt (base layer) long sleeves are advisable in order to protect children from brambles, stings, burns etc. A warm jumper, and long trousers (no shorts please)
  • A waterproof coat and trousers or all-in-one
  • Sturdy waterproof boots/trainers or wellington boots
  • Hat, gloves and neck warmer on colder days
  • Sun hat and sunscreen (already applied) on warmer days
  • A pair of extra socks
